Electrical contractors and electricians light up JUNO Awards
Certified trades professionals join spotlight with Canadian musicians
TORONTO, March 28, 2017,/CNW/ - This year's JUNO Awards will have a new set of stars walking the Red Carpet on Sunday, April 2 in Ottawa.
The Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario (ECAO) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) are not only proud to sponsor the JUNO 2017 Electronic Album of the Year Award but will also be walking the carpet as the "stars behind the stars" at the Canadian Tire Centre.
The ECAO and IBEW will each have a representative walking alongside Canada's top musicians to not only support local talent but to offer a unique glimpse into the lesser-known side of the music industry. As a warm-up, electrician Kathy Choquette joined more than 40 JUNO award nominees last week at a special pre-party hosted by fellow JUNO sponsors the Ontario Media Development Corporation.
"Can you imagine a concert without sound and lights? Me neither. How fantastic to see Ontario's electrical workers will be walking the Red Carpet this year, skilled trade professionals who make sure we see and hear Canada's greatest talent at this year's JUNO awards, and year-round on stages across the country," says Erin Benjamin, Executive Director of Music Canada Live.
Many people have no idea the work that goes on behind the scenes in making sure that performers are safely plugged in and wired for sound. The ECAO and IBEW have a proud history of helping build and maintain iconic buildings for the thousands of fans who come to hear their favourite musicians.
"Many IBEW workers were involved in the construction of the original Canadian Tire Centre so it's very exciting that one of our members is not only walking the Red Carpet at an iconic event like the JUNOs but that it is being held in a facility that we helped build," says John Grimshaw, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the IBEW Construction Council of Ontario.
"As an organization that focuses on excellence and the value of local talent, we are proud to support Canadian musicians at this year's JUNO Awards," says Jeff Koller, Executive Director of the ECAO.
